The team at Australian art magazine Beautiful Bizarre are leaving the outback this month for the sunny streets of LA. Partnering with LA gallery Corey Helford, the magazine brings the pages of Beautiful Bizarre to life in the upcoming group exhibition Secret Longings.
Curated by the team at Beautiful Bizarre and presented at Corey Helford Gallery in downtown LA, the exhibition features 80 international artists who reveal their fondest wishes and deepest desires in a selection of 2- and 3D works. Tender and evocative, the work encourages viewers to tap into their unadulterated desires, whatever they may be. “Secret Longings explores our hidden desires and deep longings,” says Beautiful Bizarre co-founder and editor-in-chief Danijela Krha Purssey. “Whether these are emotional or physical, focused on a partner or friend, lifestyle or career—these longings come from the heart.”
She continues, alluding to the seismic changes following the recent pandemic: “The last few years have clarified to many of us what we do and do not want in our lives—what is truly important. We have looked inward and understood what is vital to our happiness and mental health. Only when we have tuned into this true and deep longing, can we focus on manifesting it in our lives. It is through this pursuit of our secret longings that we grow, evolve, and create the lives we wish to live.”
Calling the collaboration “a dream come true,” Corey Helford Director Sherri J. Traham says, “For the past decade, the pages of Beautiful Bizarre Magazine have provided a utopian landscape where magical artwork springs to life. [The Beautiful Bizarre team has] an incredible intuitive sense and talent for curating the best in the New Contemporary art scene.”
